The Waikaia Trails Trust is leading the development of an exciting new 25km mountain bike trail network in the Waikaia Forest. Our vision is to create a high-quality trail experience that supports mountain biking in Southland, while also delivering economic, social, and cultural benefits to the local community.

Stage 1 of the project - a pump park and hub in the heart of Waikaia Township - has officially opened, providing a vibrant space for riders of all ages and skill levels to gather and ride. We’re also thrilled to announce the opening of Stage 2, which features the first of our purpose-built forest trails. Both stages were proudly completed by Graded Earth Ltd of Christchurch.

We are now actively exploring funding options for Stage 3, which will see the development of additional trails within the forest. Guided by a concept plan developed by Elevate Trails, our phased approach is designed to introduce new riders to the sport while supporting progression for more experienced cyclists.
